The Browns had a 99.9% chance to beat the Jets up by 13 points with less than two minutes left but ended up losing the game and failing to cover the -6.5 spread.
The Rams and Chiefs both blew their spread cover to a final TD at the end of regulation. The Rams were 10-point favorites over the Falcons and the Chiefs were 3.5 favorites against the Chargers.
CLEVELAND – The second week of the NFL season featured many teams that lost SU or failed to cover the spread in the last few minutes. This included the Browns who were up 13 points with less than two minutes on the clock in regulation.
Led by Jacoby Brissett, the Browns entered this home game versus the Jets as 6.5-point favorites and had -275 odds to win. Nick Chubb scored a TD with 1:55 remaining on the clock that put the Browns up by 13 and would have resulted in the game ending with the Browns covering the spread.
This last Browns TD also gave them a 99.9-win percentage.
Not only did they fail to cover after a Joe Flacco 66-yard TD pass, but the Browns blew an 80.4% chance of winning the game after the TD with 1:33 left on the clock.
While this was the worst bad beat of the week and possibly the entire NFL regular season, there were still other teams with short odds at sites with legal sports betting that blew the lead, spread cover, or both in week 2.
Rams Blow Spread Cover in Week 2
The LA Rams were 10-point favorites against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon at NFL legal betting sites and had a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Rams had -900 odds SU but started to collapse late in the fourth quarter
In the final 8:14 of the game, the Falcons scored 17 points through a TD pass, blocked punt TD return and a safety. The Rams winning margin ended up being four points, making the Rams 0-2 ATS for the 2022 season.
While the Falcons are yet to win a game in 2022, this bad beat on the Ram’s spread has improved the Falcons to a 2-0 spread record this season.
Herbert’s Heroics Lead to Chargers Covering
The LA Chargers are another team that has improved to a 2-0 spread record in 2022, even though they lost to the Chiefs on Thursday Night. The Chiefs were 3.5 favorites for the game and had the odds in their favor to end that way by having a 10-point lead with 3:20 remaining
Even with fractured ribs, Justin Hebert converted a fourth down and a fourth and goal with 1:11 left on the clock to score a TD that would not win the game, but help the Chargers over the spread in week 2 and move to a 2-0 ATS record for 2022.
