Alabama has +175 odds to win the CFP and Ohio State is close behind with +300. The two teams have -600 odds to not make the playoffs in 2023.
Since 2015, Alabama has made the playoffs seven times and Ohio State has had four appearances. They met in the CFP Final during the 2020 season.
LOS ANGELES – The 2022-23 college football season is about to officially kick off and the Alabama Crimson Tide are in a very familiar position with +175 odds and are the preseason favorite to win the National Championship.
After the Bulldogs finally beat the Tide in the National Championship game in 2022, legal sportsbooks opened up the odds with the Bulldogs having +200 odds to repeat, and the Buckeyes in the third spot with +600 odds.
The preseason odds have now shifted in Ohio States favor, with the Buckeys currently having the second-best title odds at +300.
Betting on the Exact 2023 CFP Matchup
With the Tide and the Buckeyes being on top of the CFP rankings and the odds boards, there is value in placing early bets on them facing each other in the CFP Final for the second time in the last three years.
Legal sportsbooks not only offer their individual odds but have generated prop bets for betting on the two teams not meeting in the 2023 event. The two powerhouses currently have -600 odds to not face each other in the CFP Final.
They also have -165 odds to both make the College Football Playoffs, which would carry less risk and offer a higher payout for bettors that feel the two teams are a betting lock for the postseason.
Since the CFP four-team playoff format was implemented in 2015, Alabama has been invited to seven of the eight playoffs. Ohio State has made it four times but was a preseason favorite three of the four seasons.
The Tide have had odds shorter than -200 to make the playoffs since the 2016 season, and only missed the cut in the 2019 season.
There is also value in betting on The Tide and the Buckeyes facing off for housing the winner of the 2023 Heisman Award. CJ Stroud is the current favorite to win the award, with -150 odds. Bryce Young is looking to repeat as the Heisman winner and has +110 odds to do so.
