Rich Strike Leads Way For Massive Underdogs Over The Weekend

Weekend Upsets Lead To Major Payouts For Kentucky Derby, Boxing, UFC, NBA Playoffs

Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby with +8200 odds.
Canelo Alvarez lost the second fight of his career with -550 odds.
Carla Esparza won the UFC strawweight title with +185 odds.
The Dallas Mavericks tied the series against the Phoenix Suns with +115 odds.

LAS VEGAS – This past weekend could have played out very well or terribly for bettors as underdogs completely ruled the weekend having paid out a total of $8,900 when betting $100 on each of them.

The underdogs were cashing in different sports such as the Kentucky Derby, boxing, the UFC, and the NBA Playoffs with the Derby paying out the most of the four sports.

Legal online betting sites had Rich Strike as the biggest underdog of the weekend at the Kentucky Derby.

Rich Strike Makes History At Kentucky Derby

After originally failing to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike was a late Friday addition to the race after Ethereal Road was scratched from the race.

That said, the horse was given the longest odds to win the Derby at +8200 and had the last starting gate at 20.

Strike was the second-largest underdog to win the race in Kentucky Derby history right behind Donerail in 1913 who had +9100 to win. This also marks just the second horse to win the Derby all-time when starting from gate 20.

Overall, Rich Strikes Kentucky Derby odds would have paid out a whopping $8,200 on a $100 bet.

Dmitry Bivol Dethrones Canelo For Massive Payout

Shockingly, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez lost just the second fight of his career bringing his record to 57-2-2 after he was defeated by Dmitry Bivol.

Bivol retained his WBA Super World Light Heavy Weight title after going into the fight as a massive +400 underdog to Canelo’s -500 boxing odds.

This snaps a long 15-fight and 9-year win streak for Canelo who will now look for another way to take down Bivol and win the WBA belt. As for Bivol, it brings him to an impressive 20-0 for his career.

Those that took Bivol’s odds to win would be up $400 if they wagered $100.

Namajunas Loses Strawweight Title To Esparza After Dud Fight

In what was arguably the most boring and uneventful fight in the UFC, Rose Namajunas was defeated by Carla Esparza and lost her Strawweight title after going into the fight as a heavy -220 favorite. That put Esparza as a +185 underdog in which she paid out $185 during her win.

Up until this fight, Thug Rose was one of the most entertaining strawweight’s in the division having defended the title on four separate occasions that included two first-round knockout wins.

Not to take anything away from Esparza though as this is her second stint with the title and she is now rising on a 6-fight win streak.

Esparza did make bettors happy as she took in 54% of total bets on the fight paying out $185 on a $100 wager.

Mavs Tie Series Against Suns With Underdog Odds

In Game 4 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, the Mavs ended off their two games at home taking care of business and tying up the series. Dallas went into the game as a +115 underdog NBA odds.

They solidified their win early in the fourth quarter as they were up by eight points with nine minutes remaining when Chris Paul picked up his final foul of the game.

The Mavs paid out $115 in Game 4 and will have a chance to offer even more in Game 5 as they are a +210 underdog in that game and a +190 underdog in the series as a whole.
